The dual-island nation was recently included in American Express Travel’s prestigious 2024 Trending Destinations: Off the Beaten Path list, marking it as one of the top 10 emerging destinations globally and the sole representative from the Caribbean region. This accolade positions St. Kitts and Nevis alongside renowned destinations, reaffirming its allure as a hidden gem worth exploring.
American Express Travel highlighted the nation’s captivating blend of pristine beaches, welcoming locals, and rich historical heritage, making it an ideal destination for travelers seeking a unique Caribbean experience. Industry leaders have noted the influence of such accolades on travel trends, anticipating a surge in bookings for the upcoming winter season.

“This recognition by American Express Travel significantly boosts our visibility and attractiveness to travelers worldwide,” remarked Ellison “Tommy” Thompson, CEO of the St. Kitts Tourism Authority. “With new air services and cruise ship visits on the rise, we are poised to surpass pre-pandemic visitor numbers and showcase our island’s distinctive charm.”
St. Kitts has seen a notable increase in visitor arrivals, with statistics from Tourism Analytics revealing a 38% rise in tourism from January to September last year compared to the same period in 2022. The island’s popularity as a cruise ship destination remains robust, with over half a million passengers visiting by September 2023.

The upcoming winter season holds promise with the debut of Royal Caribbean’s Icon of the Seas, the world’s largest cruise ship, scheduled to make its maiden voyage to St. Kitts on January 27. Additionally, expanded airlift services, including JetBlue’s year-round flights from New York and extended services from Newark, are set to facilitate easier access for travelers attending key events such as the St. Kitts Music Festival and Restaurant Week.
Looking ahead, the St. Kitts Destination Specialist program aims to further incentivize travel advisors with exclusive perks and rewards, fostering deeper engagement and promotion of the destination’s unique offerings.
