In January, Milka Menjo, a mother from Nandi, Kenya, made headlines across the nation when she participated in a 12-kilometer marathon wearing a skirt and bra because she could not afford conventional athletic gear. The event took place during a race held at Barng’etuny Mountain, where Menjo stood out among a group of dedicated athletes.

Her image swiftly went viral, capturing the attention of Julius Biwot, a Kenyan member of parliament renowned for his charitable endeavors. Biwot expressed his desire to meet Menjo and extend his support. He generously gifted her a complete running outfit and pledged to build her a house.
“We were able to locate Mrs. Milka Menjo, a devoted mother from Cherondo village, Soba Songhor Ward, with a one-year-old child,” stated Biwot.

In a heartfelt gesture, Biwot welcomed Menjo and her husband, Josphat, into his home. He commended Menjo for her perseverance despite facing criticism and trolls. “Today, I welcomed her and her husband to my home to celebrate her passionate participation in the Senior Women’s 12-kilometer race despite the obstacles,” he remarked.
During their visit, Biwot surprised the couple with several gifts, including the construction of a three-bedroom house. Additionally, he presented them with a cow and pledged to provide coffee seedlings for planting, enabling them to generate income from the harvest.
Reflecting on the significance of the Barng’etuny Mountain Run, Biwot emphasized the event’s ability to showcase the remarkable talent within the region. “The race was not merely a competition but a platform to unearth exceptional abilities,” he remarked.
Biwot assured continued support for Menjo’s athletic pursuits, expressing gratitude to all those who amplified her story across various platforms.
