
Dr. Keith Rowley receives honorary degree
from Howard University
Trinidad and Tobago’s Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley was awarded an honorary Doctor of Letters degree from Howard University in Washington at the university’s 155th commencement ceremony on Saturday.
United States President Joe Biden who delivered the feature address at the ceremony, congratulated Dr. Rowley on receiving the honorary degree, saying he did not know he (Dr. Rowley) was “so talented.”
President Biden also received an honorary Doctor of Letters degree.
Trinidad-born Dr. Wayne Frederick, president of Howard University, described Dr.Rowley as a “renowned social and political leader, pioneering statesman and scholar”
Dr.Frederick hailed his leadership of Trinidad and Tobago and his work to improve energy, education and other sectors.
“Howard University applauds your living legacy of achievement and applauds you as a shining example of our core values of leadership, excellence and truth and service,” said Dr. Frederick.
During his speech, President Biden also praised Dr.Rowley as a strong partner to the United States and for addressing climate change and supporting democracies across the western hemisphere
President Biden and Dr.Rowley were among seven 2023 Howard University honorary doctorate awardees.
The others were congressman James E Clyburn; education benefactors Martha and Bruce A Karsh; A Eugene Washington, CEO of the Duke University Health System; and Benaree Pratt Wiley, retired president and CEO of The Partnership Inc. of Boston.
