Black Community Health Strategy and Mobile Health Unit launched

The Black Creek Community Health Centre is proud to announce the launch of its comprehensive Black Community Health Strategy, accompanied by the introduction of a state-of-the-art Mobile Health Unit. 

This initiative is aimed at addressing health disparities and improving access to quality healthcare for Black communities in the Black Creek- Humber catchment area. It is a robust, multi-faceted approach designed to tackle the unique health challenges faced by Black individuals and families.  It is a community-centered approach that requires collaborating with local leaders and organizations to ensure health interventions are culturally sensitive and community-driven.

The Mobile Health Unit

Other Key Features of the Black Community Health Strategy include:

  • Capacity building to respond to the unique health and wellness challenges in the Black Creek-Humber community 
  • Providing culturally relevant health education and resources to empower individuals with knowledge about preventive care, chronic disease management, and overall wellness
  • Partnerships and collaboration with local organizations, faith-based groups, and local businesses to create a support network that enhances health outcomes
  • Offering regular health screenings and preventive care services to detect and manage conditions such as hypertension, and diabetes.

The Mobile Health Unit is a fully equipped, state-of-the-art facility designed to bring essential healthcare services directly to underserved areas. Key features of the Mobile Health Unit include: accessibility, culturally competent healthcare services including health screenings, and routine check-ups, directly within neighborhoods where access to healthcare is limited.

“The launch of our Black Community Health Strategy and Mobile Health Unit is a significant step towards addressing the systemic barriers that have long impacted the health and well-being of Black individuals. This initiative is about more than just healthcare, it’s about empowering our community with the knowledge and resources they need to take control of their health”. 

To celebrate the launch, a community Health and Wellness event, Cultural Wellness, will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2024, at the Jamaican Canadian Centre, 995 Arrow Road, Toronto. The event will feature free health screenings, a Kids Zone with Back-to-School supplies, educational workshops, wellness and well-being activities, cultural performances and an opportunity to tour the Mobile Health Unit. Local leaders, healthcare professionals, and community members are invited to join us for this special occasion.
